Film Poster Analysis

I chose to do my film poster analysis on the Pianist.  I saw this film a few years back and it's very good but at the same time shocking.  This movie was released on December 4, 2002.  It is non-fiction and based on the autobiography of Wladyslaw Szpilman.  The movie poster is very descriptive.  There is a lonely man standing in the midst of a destructed city.  The sky is full of dark and heavy clouds.  The buildings are burned and broken.  The colors used are depressing and give a sense of loneliness.  Every single building in the picture is colorless.  The street is full of crumbled cement debris.  I think that this man has survived a war and has come to a destructed city.
The first thing that catches my eye is the lonely man standing in the middle of this disaster.  He is wearing all black clothes.  We can tell that he is sort of hunching down.  This gives me a sense that this man is tired and energyless.  We can see that this man is just looking at all that has been.  He is probably shocked to see the place this way.
I think the creator of this image wants us to feel sorry for this man.  This person is clearly all alone probably in the entire neighborhood.  No one else is included besides him. There is also no action shown in the image.  This is just a very mysterious picture that makes viewers want to watch the movie.
